I am a dedicated family man with a fabulous wife and 4 wonderful children, all of whom are talented and special individuals!
Why did you choose your specialty/job role?
Interest in taking care of active individuals, and helping patients with musculoskeletal injuries return to an active lifestyle. I also have an interest in exploring the underlying biologic mechanisms of tissue healing and repair so as to identify new approaches to improve tissue healing.
What’s the most interesting/memorable case you’ve been involved in for the Second medical Opinion (SMO) service?
Complex knee instability.
What do you most enjoy about working for Teladoc Health?
The opportunity to review challenging cases and to provide some insight that would be helpful for individuals with various musculoskeletal problems.
How do you think patients can benefit from the SMO service?
Hopefully the expert medical opinion can provide perspective and insight on standard of care treatments for a range of various medical problems. This expert opinion may assure the patient that they have received the correct diagnosis and treatment recommendations, or may be able to suggest alternative treatments that may not have been considered.
What is the professional achievement you’re most proud of?
Combining basic laboratory research with my clinical practice, and taking our discoveries from laboratory research back to patients in order to improve patient care.
Are you involved in any other organisations or charity work?
I am a member of a number of different national and international orthopedic surgery and sports medicine organizations. I also provide care for our USA Swimming national team.
Is there anything else you’d like to mention?
An important focus of my work is to work as a clinician-scientist, combining basic research with patient care. The focus of our translational research program is to take research findings in the laboratory back to clinical trials in patients, in order to improve our treatments for a number of musculoskeletal conditions.
