Paul attended the Duke University Medical School; UCLA ENT training with additional fellowship training in ear diseases and ear surgery. He held a Faculty position at the University of Virginia for 17 years, followed by Chair of the ENT Department at the Medical University of South Carolina. He has appeared in more than 175 publications, with published research on tinnitus, Menieres disease, chronic ear infections, acoustic tumors, hearing loss, otosclerosis, cochlear implants and other hearing rehabilitative procedures.  He is President of many ear related national societies in the US.

Hobbies include playing basketball and tennis weekly and as time permits travelling internationally with my wife.

Why did you choose your specialty/job role?

A

The intricate anatomy of the ear and the variety of ear diseases provides great reward for innovative patient care, surgery, and research.

What’s the most interesting/memorable case you’ve been involved in for the Second Medical Opinion (SMO) service?

A

Any case involving Meniere’s disease presents a challenge since our knowledge of the underlying cause is incomplete and there are many treatment options.

What do you most enjoy about working for Teladoc Health?

A

Discussing interesting and challenging cases and the opportunity to provide my insight based on experience and a good knowledge of the current research in that field.

How do you think patients can benefit from the Second Medical Opinion (SMO) service?

A

A second opinion is always a reasonable thing to obtain. Each physician brings a different knowledge base and experience to a patient’s problem.

What is the professional achievement you’re most proud of?

A

As chair of the ENT Department at MUSC, our Department progressed from unranked to one of the Top 15 out of several hundred in the US.

Are you involved in any other organisations or charity work?

A

Involved in multiple US national organizations related to ENT and specifically  the earMore than 2 decades of providing ear car/surgery in the Dominican Republic and Bolivia.
