"Virtual GP : the best employee benefit I have"
“I had been experiencing hip issues for about a year, stemming from some pregnancy-related complications. Recently, the discomfort escalated, prompting me to seek professional advice urgently. Knowing NHS appointments can take time; I decided to try Teladoc Health because I get free access to the service via my employee benefit.
Initially unsure how a phone consultation would address my physical problem, I was pleasantly surprised by the doctor’s efficiency. I logged into the app around 9:00 a.m. and swiftly scheduled a phone appointment for 10:15 a.m. She guided me through assessments over the phone and suggested X-rays to pinpoint the issue.
During our phone consultation, she suggested immediate pain relief for me while I awaited X-ray results. By lunchtime, I received a prescription link via text and obtained the recommended painkillers by 2:00 p.m. The process was seamless and direct.
I subsequently had a face-to-face consultation with my local GP, and I laughed because the Teladoc Health doctor did a more thorough examination over the phone than my GP when I sat in front of her. She didn’t make me move or do anything like that. There was no physical examination.
Subsequent X-rays were clear, pointing towards a potential need for an MRI scan due to a suspected calcific tendinopathy. The treatment plan is in progress following a physiotherapy referral and pending ultrasound results. Although challenges remain, the service effectively alleviated my pain until further consultations with my GP.
It’s the best benefit I receive. The most impressive aspect for me was how quickly I transitioned from accessing the app to having a conversation with the doctor.”
