The patient wishes to remain anonymous.
The patient, who wishes to remain anonymous, accessed a second medical opinion service offered as part of their employer’s healthcare benefits. This service provides employees with the opportunity to obtain an independent specialist opinion on diagnoses and treatment plans.
The patient was originally diagnosed with Lyme disease through the National Health Service (NHS). However, they expressed uncertainty regarding the prescribed treatment, particularly the necessity of an extended course of antibiotics, given the preventative measures already undertaken following a tick bite. To address these concerns, the patient opted to utilise the employer-provided second opinion service.
The patient initiated the process via the employer’s health app, which had been registered at the start of employment.
A prompt response followed, with a call to arrange a consultation with a General Practitioner (GP), and subsequent contact from a dedicated case manager.

Having this second opinion gave me confidence and peace of mind about the treatment path I chose.” The patient
