Quick and effortless access to a GP: A Patient’s Experience

A patient explains how the Virtual GP service allowed them to quickly access healthcare

“I first heard about the service through my employer – Virtual GP services is one of the benefits included on my health insurance plan, and was something which I had previously not considered using.

Whilst on a recent holiday, my wife noticed that I had developed some unusual-looking skin lesions. Naturally, she was worried, particularly as we were spending more time outdoors in strong sunshine, and she urged me to have them checked as soon as possible. I knew that skin changes can sometimes be a sign of something more serious, so I agreed with her that it was not something to ignore or put off until later.

When we got back home, my first instinct was to contact my local GP practice and book a face-to-face appointment in the usual way. However, when I called, I was surprised to be told that the earliest available slot was over six weeks away. Waiting that long felt far too risky, especially as my wife’s concerns were increasing, and I knew that I would continue to worry in the meantime. That’s when I remembered the Virtual GP service that I had through my insurance plan.

I contacted Teladoc immediately, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I could use the service right away. There was no complicated process, no long delays, and no barriers. Just having that reassurance in the moment – knowing I could speak with a qualified doctor without waiting weeks – lifted a huge weight off my mind.

Quick access to care

The sign-up process was simple, clear, and easy to follow.

Everything was laid out step by step, so even though I was trying to juggle catching up on work after my holiday, I was still able to register and book my consultation without any hassle. On my very first day back, I had my appointment, which went smoothly from start to finish.

The GP I spoke to was excellent – professional, approachable, and thorough in their questioning.

They listened carefully to my concerns and took my situation seriously, which reassured me straight away. By the end of the call, the GP had provided me with a referral to see a specialist. Even more impressively, I received this referral electronically on the very same day. That level of efficiency made the whole experience incredibly convenient. I also had the option of forwarding my consultation notes directly to my regular GP so that everything could be properly documented and remain part of my medical history.

I have also used the Virtual GP service for my daughter, who is covered under my policy.

As any parent will understand, when children are unwell, quick access to medical advice feels even more important. In her case, too, the process was straightforward, efficient, and reassuring. The fact that I could get advice for her so quickly gave me genuine peace of mind, and it reinforced my confidence in using the service for other family members.

Incredibly Valuable

Looking back, I can honestly say that I would recommend the service without hesitation. I have already spoken positively about it to friends, colleagues, and family members. For people like me, who travel frequently for both work and leisure, or for anyone who finds it difficult to get to their local GP in person, the Virtual GP option is nothing short of fantastic.

In my opinion, having access to this virtual GP service is incredibly valuable. It provides reassurance, saves time, and ensures that you can be seen by a medical professional quickly, regardless of your circumstances or location. For me, it turned what could have been a long and anxious wait into a smooth, supportive, and efficient experience.”
