Darryl shares his experience of our virtual GP service
I’d noticed a lump developing on my wrist and previously I’d experienced a tingling sensation in my fingers that seemed to get worse as the lump grew. I needed to get it assessed but struggled to get an appointment with my usual doctor’s surgery. I remembered then I had medical insurance via my employer so decided to enquire what could be done.
I was connected to a Teladoc Health GP and given a session to discuss my symptoms – I sent photos beforehand and it gave the conversation with the doctor context. The GP suggested a further investigation and referral that would yield treatments options. My insurer then gave me a list of possible hospitals or surgeries to book an appointment with.
Fortunately the place I selected had a surgeon who treats hands and wrists and I had a diagnostic consultation. They recommended an MRI and EMG/Nerve Conduction Study test to determine how well my nerves and muscles were functioning. I’m now waiting for the consultant to review the results but feel good knowing there is a plan in place.
If I hadn’t used this service, I’d likely still be on the waiting list for an initial appointment so I’m grateful for the speed and efficiency as well as the evaluation itself.
