Grief Support: Teladoc Mental Health Service provided me with a safe space to explore my emotions

A patient shares their experience of how the Teladoc Mental Health Service created a safe space for exploration of grief.

“I was really struggling with grief after losing my dad, and although I had friends and family around, I felt like I needed something more. I didn’t want to burden my family, especially as they were going through it too. I first heard about the service after a colleague mentioned that they had gone through something similar and had found the Mental Health Service to be very supportive.

First Steps

Reaching out was completely outside my comfort zone. In fact, I almost cancelled my first appointment. But I’m so glad I didn’t. My Teladoc Health counsellor, Kerry, put me at ease straight away. What started as support for grief ended up being a space where I could open up about so many other things I hadn’t even realised I needed to talk about. It was strange how naturally everything came out. I found it very helpful.

What I really took away from the sessions was the reassurance that it’s okay to need support, even if others might seem worse off. Kerry gave me helpful resources that I still refer to, and they really resonated — it was like reading about myself. It didn’t solve everything, but it made things feel more bearable at that time.

Honestly, if this service hadn’t been available through work, I probably wouldn’t have done anything. Getting a GP appointment is near impossible where I live, and I think I would’ve just kept pushing through. This service helped save me from spiralling, and it definitely helped me stay well enough to keep working.

I would 100% recommend the service — especially to anyone who, like me, finds the idea of counselling intimidating. Talking to someone outside of your usual circle makes a huge difference.”
