Samantha Cotterill's Story

As a professional counsellor, Sam is used to guiding others through life’s toughest moments. But when she faced her own series of personal challenges — from bereavement and family struggles to navigating a potential ADHD diagnosis — she realised it was time to prioritise her wellbeing. Sam accessed fast, focused therapy through her employer’s partnership with Teladoc Health that helped her shift deep-seated beliefs and reconnect with her own needs. Her story is a powerful reminder that even those caring for others sometimes need support.

“We have an employee programme that gives us access to therapy. I thought, ‘You know what? I might as well make use of it.It was just easy to navigate. And the response was so quick. I didn’t want to wait two years for help. I wanted support now.”

Sam was paired with Gillian, a senior counsellor at Teladoc Health whose direct yet compassionate style helped her stay focused on her needs during therapy — something she admits she doesn’t often do.

“I’m a counsellor myself, and sometimes that makes it harder. But Gillian just saw me for who I was. She was challenging in the right ways and kept bringing the focus back to me.”

Over a series of short-term therapy sessions, Sam had breakthroughs that helped her reframe some deeply held personal beliefs.  Sam says the short-term format worked well to deliver focused, intensive support, and she would absolutely reach out again if needed.

“I felt heard. I felt seen. I felt believed and supported. It’s been a really worthwhile experience.”
