When Nikki fell in a coffee shop and suffered a soft tissue injury, her immediate instinct was to seek medical help from her local GP. But as the recovery was taking longer than expected, she turned to a service offered by her employer, Teladoc Health’s virtual Second Medical Opinion.
“I found out about the service through work. I’d already seen a doctor, but I wanted to explore what more I could do to speed up my recovery and get back to feeling myself,” Nikki explains.
Getting access to the service was quick and easy. “I received a link, filled out a short form, and booked an appointment in just a few days. It was really straightforward,” she says.
Nikki first had an initial consultation with a GP Case Manager, who listened carefully to her concerns, asked detailed questions about her injury and symptoms, and then submitted the notes and relevant NHS medical records to a carefully selected top-tier specialist from Teladoc Health’s Second Medical Opinion database.
The report gave confidence in recovery
Nikki received a detailed report from the specialist, which provided clear, evidence-based guidance. What stood out most for Nikki was the peace of mind she gained from the second opinion. “It gave me confidence in my treatment plan. Every doctor has a slightly different approach, and it helped to hear another expert’s perspective.”
The specialist’s report also provided practical recommendations that Nikki could act on immediately, including beginning physiotherapy, incorporating gentle stretching exercises into her daily routine, and considering deep tissue massage to aid recovery. “I’ve started physiotherapy and plan to begin deep tissue massage next month. The second opinion helped me make informed decisions and stay proactive in my recovery.”
Beyond the medical advice, the service had a significant emotional impact. “The service made a huge emotional difference,” Nikki reflects. “When you’re injured—especially while working from home—you can feel isolated. Having professional medical support at my fingertips reassured me and helped me stay positive.”
She now sees the service as an essential workplace benefit and actively encourages colleagues to use it. “I’d highly recommend it.
