Dan Greasley explains how Teladoc Health helped his son
“We have previously used the virtual GP service, and every appointment has been quick and efficient. On this occasion, we received a letter from our local hospital on a Friday regarding our son, Ben. The letter informed us that the NHS tests had been completed, which was the end of the investigation.
My wife and I discussed it and felt that this response was insufficient. We wanted to investigate further, so we contacted Teladoc Health on the Sunday. I submitted an online appointment request, and within five minutes, a doctor called us asking, “Is now a good time?”
We explained that I had sent the letters from the hospital with my appointment request, but we were unclear about their implications. The GP clarified the medical terminology and explained everything in layman’s terms, which was very helpful. Then she asked, “What do you want the outcome to be for Ben?” I expressed that Ben was still experiencing pain and discomfort, and we were seeking a referral to a consultant. She quickly assured us this was fine and inquired if we knew the consultant’s costs. I replied that I wasn’t sure of the exact amount, but we had private medical insurance available.
The doctor was incredibly supportive and provided detailed consultation notes and a referral letter.
As patients and parents, we desire reassurance and clear explanations. We value the time she provided to understand what is happening, what it all means, and to process that information. Without access to Teladoc Health, we might have considered waiting to see how Ben fared in a week, and we could have probably returned to the NHS system.
The Teladoc Health GP reassured us that since Ben was still experiencing pain at different levels, if it worsened, we should take him to A&E immediately and bring a copy of her consultation notes from the app to share with the hospital staff. Having a doctor’s advice on what to do is comforting as a parent.
