I received a letter from my bank’s medical insurance company, reiterating that I was covered for free consultations and support. It got me thinking whether Teladoc Health could help with my ongoing ear issues.
I had a historic diagnosis of otosclerosis (abnormal bone remodelling in the ear, disrupting the ability of sound to travel from the middle ear to the inner ear) and a subsequent surgery which wasn’t successful.
The initial doctors were naturally focused on the issue raised, so all examinations and conclusions concentrated on that area of the ear. After the failed operation, despite the hearing still being impaired, I was told little more could be done.
Thanks to my insurance coverage reminder, I contacted Teladoc Health to see about a second opinion and if anything further could be offered, even if just reassurance.
I was swiftly connected to a GP who listened for over an hour at a convenient time to me. The GP subsequently prepared case notes and sent them to a selected expert from Teladoc Health’s global database. The GP’s findings were reviewed by this chosen expert, and resulted in a very detailed report with recommendations one week later.
One of those recommendations was to undergo an MRI scan which uncovered a rare genetic disorder that had contributed to my initial ear problems. Whilst further surgery wasn’t immediately advised, I now had an in-depth diagnostic report which in turn helped me manage the condition and made everyday life easier.
I was delighted with the service received “it was fast, smooth and easily understandable, a great overall experience.”
