Helen shares her experience using the Nutrition Service after a major health event led her to re-evaluate her lifestyle choices
“After being hospitalised with a heart attack, I knew I needed to make serious lifestyle changes. When I was discharged, I was given a booklet about what to eat and what to avoid but it was all quite overwhelming.
I noticed my insurance included access to a Nutritionist, so I thought—why not give it a try? The process of booking the appointment was super simple, and my Nutritionist called at the scheduled time.
The Nutritionist was phenomenal. She explained things in such a clear and interesting way, and I actually found myself excited to learn from her. She introduced me to things I’d never really understood before like complex carbohydrates, how to build a balanced plate, and even how food and sleep are connected. We talked about the vagus nerve and how regulating it can help with my sleep, which has been a big struggle for me. The advice wasn’t just general it felt personal, and tailored to me, not just some standard script.
Without this service, I probably would’ve ended up searching for recipes online or trying to figure it all out on my own. Instead, I got guidance that I could use immediately – I now feel confident going into a shop and applying the advice. It’s helped me to understand how to make better choices day to day.
